My classroom is a diverse group of children from around the world. The one thing they all have in common is they are all new comers to the United States with little or no English. In the classroom they learn English for survival purposes because it is the only way they can communicate with each other and with their teachers as well. I speak Spanish and Portuguese so it helps a little with some of my students. And with the other languages Google translate world miracles. When the children finish their ten months in my classroom the are more confident in reading speaking and writing in English. It gives me joy to see so many children making an effort to learn. I also am genuinely happy to see the efforts the parent put in to helping their children and learning English with them. We learn from each other making lasting memories. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to work in the new Arrivals classroom.
