My 3rd grade students are energetic, inquisitive, and strong-willed. My school is a Title One school located in Washington, D.C. Most of my students live in the neighborhood and walk to school. After almost closing, my school's PTA and staff worked tirelessly to remain open and prove what a strong community we truly are. As a result of their hard work, my school remained open and enrollment has increased since Two-thirds of my students are African-American and one-third are Hispanic. Their reading levels range from that of a 4th grader to that of a 1st grader. Everyday I work to create opportunities for students to support each other's learning. I believe that students can be each other's best resources in the classroom, which is why I enjoy teaching in small groups in order to differentiate instruction to meet all learner's needs. The strongest aspect of my classroom is our strong sense of community.
