My ESL classroom is a real example of the "great American melting pot"! I currently work with over 100 Kindergarten to 8th grade students who are learning English as their Second Language (ESL). My students speak eight different languages and come from ten different countries. As a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher working in a large, urban district in Ohio, I am responsible for teaching the necessary curriculum while developing my students' English language skills. My students live through out the district and many endure long bus rides across town to participate in our school's ESL program. In spite of their low socioeconomic status, my students are always eager to learn. Their families are truly thankful for the opportunities a public education can bring their children. For some of my students, this is the first school they have ever attended.
