My class is a safe place. My children live in poverty. For may of them, school is the safest place they know. They do not have reading and writing materials at home so I want provide all the opportunities I can to help them reach their full potential. These materials will give me an opportunity to embed writing in reading to all parts of our day. The supplies in this project gives me the ability to set up a specific writing center. The shelf will establish a writing center in my room and the other supplies are items that will go in the center to help kids with their writing. This includes stamps and stamp pads, dry erase boards and dry erase pens to work on writing specific types of words and then other supplies to have a variety of writing materials. The kids will use the writing materials to make their own books that they can take home and read to their families. When they create their own books, kids are really engaged and really believe that they are readers and writers. This project also includes a couple of chairs for our reading center. This will help the kids stay focused on their reading when they are in this center. These items and centers will help the kids use all of the resources to become the best readers and writers they can be.
