I teach AP Environmental Science (APES) and Environmental Science at the John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science, in Roxbury, Massachusetts. The O'Bryant is part of the Boston Public Schools System, the oldest public school system in the United States. The O'Bryant is one of the three exam schools in Boston, meaning that students must take an exam and receive a certain score in order to gain admission into the school. My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Many are first generation Americans, and speak at least one other language fluently. They come from all over the city of Boston to attend the O'Bryant, some traveling over an hour on public transportation to reach school each day (one way). My students also come from a variety of economic backgrounds. the majority of my students come from low-income homes, and all students receive free lunch.
