I am a first year visual arts teacher currently working with two different Chicago Public Schools. My students range from 6th-12th grade and are all eager to get their hands dirty! My students crave agency and the opportunity to experience their own individual and group power as young and active minded-individuals. My elementary classroom is lacking in much needed supplies. We now have art year round which is a great accomplishment, but we are struggling to create quality work as well as provide the students with a positive experience. Lake View High school has also added a Graphic Design course. We are lucky to have access to Software programs such as Adobe Illustrator but need assistance in providing students the opportunity to build strong and tangible graphic design portfolios as well as communicate to them that through the arts they can promote change within their environments.
