As a teacher it is my responsibility to ensure that my students have an environment that meets each and everyone of their special needs. All of the students that come into our classroom are developmentally delayed and some not possessing the ability to utilize their language. The items that I have chosen for our classroom are things that I believe will allow me to create an environment that will foster healthy language and learning in a fun and exciting way. The Circle Time Learning center and the All About Letters Pocket Chart will be an amazing addition to our current curriculum. It will allow me to utilize visuals that will help my students grasp new concepts and remain engaged without teaching a specific skill. The calendar, the letters, simple counting as well as the weather wheel are all basic concepts that will be useful in preparing my students for higher level learning and thinking. Our classroom lacks a complete wooden train set and I believe adding one to our class will give my students exposure to problem solving, help them to develop creativity and imagination as well as strengthen their fine motor skills, all which will contribute to their future success. The students will have access to the train set daily in center time. The House Building Engineering Center will allow my students to get a closer look at real life designs utilizing basic shapes, creative designs as well as developmentally appropriate geometry. We will use this kit in our STEM Center. Many of my students have limited exposure to community helpers and careers. Therefore, the costumes that I chose will be a great asset to our classroom during our dramatic play time.
