I am an Academic Intervention Services Teacher and my students are 4th and 5th graders who are academically at-risk. All of the students I work with did not meet the State learning standards in Reading or Math the previous year, and therefore, are given extra support through Academic Intervention Services. They come to my class in groups of 6, for small group instruction in English Language Arts and Math. Individual attention can be focused on them in this small group setting and their various learning styles and needs can be addressed. In this small group setting, they are given the extra support needed to make them successful learners.
