My students are primarily second-language learners, living in a city with an extremely high level of poverty and low educational achievement results. Many are immigrants to the country and struggle with written language skills. This group of 3 classes of students is made up of 75 5th grade students and many are working toward proficiency in English. Despite the struggles they face both in and out of school they are an extremely creative and insightful group with a genuine curiosity and love of learning.
