First grade is a tricky and academically demand grade for students. The switch from a mostly play-based day in kindergarden to so much academics in first grade can be hard! Giving my students different options for places to sit and focus on their learning makes a huge difference in the flow of our days! It can be so hard to sit still in one spot for long periods of time and I have found that giving different options for seating really changes how our days go. Sitting on a ball chair forces a student's to concentrate on balancing and distracts their mind from rolling around or fidgeting in their seat. My students are very protective of their classroom supplies, they don't have a lot at home and the things they get to keep at school are precious to them. Having a better way to organize and keep everyone's supplies safe would mean a lot to my students and I. Right now my students sit in grouped tables and we'd love to have containers to keep our glue, scissors, and crayons in. In addition, adding seat sacks to the back of their chairs provides individual storage space for the (many, many) notebooks and workbooks we use on a day-to-day basis.
