Most of my students have blocks that are the interlocking type--which are fun but do not require the same type or amount of fine motor and balance in order for structures to be created. All of my students enjoy building, but right now, we have a small basket of blocks--only enough for one student to use at a time. If students are able to work with a partner while constructing, communication, collaboration and problem-solving naturally occur. Those are some of the life-long skills which we hope students will be developing as they discover cause and effect, weight and gravity in our new block area.
