  • "There Is No Frigate Like a Book" - E.Dickinson

    Funded Aug 25, 2016

    Dear Donors,

My students and I are extremely grateful for your generous contributions to our classroom library. Reading is an integral part of English class, and because of your generous donations, you have ensured that they will get lots of practice in reading with books that are exciting and engaging for them! They get to enter worlds that are fantastical or historic or settings that even resemble ones in which they inhabit. Regardless of what genres they choose to read, you have given them so many opportunities to broaden their vocabulary, learn about plot structures and character development, and live many lives hundreds of times over through the characters in their books. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • A Paper-Free Classroom Almost a Reality -- Because of You!

    Funded May 10, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Words cannot adequately express our deepest gratitude for your contributions to our classroom project. Having a classroom set of Chromebooks has completely revolutionized our classroom. Chromebooks allow my students to learn how to navigate programs, information, and technology that colleges and businesses use every day. Using these laptops teaches my students how to be tech savvy, preparing them for a world completely ensconced in the digital age. They learn to create and organize their work digitally, using Google Docs and Google Drive. They develop beautiful, masterful projects using Google Slides and Google Drawings! They can complete quizzes and surveys that I have created using Google Forms. Furthermore, because each student now has access to a computer, they can send emails to their teachers, requesting assistance or asking questions to clarify assignments. They can check their grades online to see if they are missing any assignments or read feedback from their teachers about their work using these Chromebooks.

Because of you, their educational lives have been transformed. We cannot thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • Revolutionizing Education for the 21st Century!

    Funded Sep 22, 2015

Our twelve new Chromebooks have transformed our classroom, our ability to procure texts, our access to a world of information, our creative possibilities, and the environment! Without you, none of this would be possible!

Due to the Chromebook's ability to connect with the Internet, our students are now able to read any book of their choice, free of charge, through the New York Public Library. Because many books are available in electronic format, they are able to read a plethora of titles because we have the Chromebooks! Furthermore, electronic books allow us to save millions of tons of paper, reducing our impact on the environment. Additionally, I am able to share texts with my students, send assignments, and give them feedback on their work electronically, all minimizing our use of paper products but expediting/streamlining our work.

Since receiving our Chromebooks, students have been spending several hours a day after school researching projects, reading, and creating presentations that are sophisticated and eye-catching! My classroom has become the place to go to access information, study, and conduct research. Without this technology, my students' creativity and learning would be severely limited.

Lastly, the Chromebooks have aided my most vulnerable students -- students with learning disabilities and/or English Language Learners. Audio books allow my students to listen to narration while following along with the text. This provides multiple benefits: it develops language fluency; it increases comprehension and engagement; and it helps to build vocabulary by introducing new words within a narrative context. My students and I are immensely grateful for this technology that has transformed the way my students approach reading.

We cannot thank you enough for all you've done for us.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

Welcome to my Donors Choose page! Thank you for visiting. I teach on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in a school with over 75% of the students qualifying for free/reduced lunch. Many of my students' first language is not English, and some of them struggle with learning disabilities. However, they are delightful, curious and creative children who work hard and achieve much! I feel incredibly lucky to be their teacher!
