We Love Books!
Funded Oct 15, 2019As a special education teacher reading is so fundamental. Fostering the love for reading at an early age is so important. With a variety of genres of books it makes it much easier for kids to engage and find books that they are interested in.
Most of the reading in my classroom is small group work. We all read the same book in a group, respond to questions and talk about the book. We also engage in reading techniques that may not be taught in the general education classroom, so reluctant readers really need to find books they LOVE.
My kindergarten students love Piggie and Elephant books. They are even asking for the books to be read to them remotely.
Thank you so much for your generosity!”

Love of Literacy
Funded Oct 10, 2019My students love the books that have been donated to our library. I service students who are reluctant readers, or who have difficulty reading. With our new titles, they can't wait to come and pick out new books from the library. They often ask "when are more new books coming?"
Having high interest books really motivate them to want to read and help them grow their love of reading. Many students have asked to borrow books to bring home to read because they just can't put the book down.
Without your generosity my student's love for reading would not have grown the way it has.”

Funded Jan 28, 2019Thank you so much for our meeting area rug. It provides a comfortable space for the class to sit and learn. Prior to having the rug our students had to sit on the cold floor. This makes learning more comfortable and cozy. It also gives students a space to read comfortably.
The students were so excited when they saw the brand new bright colored rug in the classroom. It adds color and makes our classroom a more comfortable cozy space.
The students are contributing to learn about reading and writing about their opinions. We are working on measurement in math and all of the students are excited learners.”

Funded Dec 10, 2018Thank you so much for the supplies for our classroom, the clipboards and the bins. The bins help keep us organized. We keep our folders and workbooks in them. Each table has their own bin for all of their materials. We know where all of our supplies are an we are organized which helps us learn more. We also, now have a place to keep our math materials. The clipboards allow us to write in the meeting area and we really enjoy having them to help with our learning.
Thank you so much for getting the materials for our classroom.”

Help Cultivate Our Love for Reading
Funded Oct 25, 2018Thank you so much for donating books to our classroom. Our students are learning reading skills to better themselves as readers. Some skills being taught are how to make their reading more fluent, which means that they are learning how to read how they speak. Also, to pay attention to punctuation while they read. They are also learning how to reread aloud and read silently in their head. They are also learning how to match the mood of the book, so that their reading makes sense. Our students are successfully implementing these skills and strategies and practicing using the books that were donated to our classroom.
Everyday we have a fifteen minute reading lesson where the students watch the teacher model a skill or strategy. For example, if it is reading more fluently, the teacher will model how to read fluently in front of the whole class. After that, the students will independently read and practice the skill on their own, lastly they read to their partners and show their partners how they have been practicing fluency in their own books.
In our classroom, there are special education students who are not reading at second grade level. The books that we received are levels that our lower readers can enjoy. They like the feel of new books and don't feel as badly reading a lower level, knowing that they have brand new books to enjoy.
Our class thanks you greatly.”

Funded Nov 28, 2017During our literacy centers, the students LOVE using the 3Doodler pens to write their sight words. Whenever they get a chance to use the pens, they get so excited and it is so motivating. They use the pens to practice their spelling and fine motor skills. Even the students who have difficulty spelling and attending for long periods of time use the pens for longer than normal. They make learning so much fun. If our schedule gets changed and they miss their literacy centers, they are upset when they don't get a chance to use them.
We are thoroughly enjoying using the pens on a daily basis.”

Funded Oct 24, 2016My students with ADHD and other sensory issues are really benefiting from the wedge cushion seats. It helps them stay focused when seated on the rug or in their chair. It helps with their posture and gives them sensory input that they are continually seeking.
The kids were very excited when the cushions arrived. They all wanted one (24 students) but only 4 arrived. They each took a turn using them, but were respectful of the students who really need them. One student calls it "his focus seat" which is very cute.
We are very grateful for the generous donations, sometimes its the little things that help our students the most.”

Help My Students Learn Through Multi-Sensory Means!
Funded Aug 28, 2013My students are so grateful for the resources they have received. I told them that generous donors gave us the materials, their response was, when I grow up and get a job, I am going to pay those people back because I love these learning games so much.
We are using the resources for phonemic awareness, sight word recognition, number sense; addition, subtraction, odd/even numbers, as well as multiplication. These hands on activities and manipulatives have reinforced many skills and concepts.”
