My students need tablets and accessories. Learning happens in various forms and in our math class I make a conscious effort to utilize multiples resources to create a variety of learning opportunities for my scholars. One aspect of blended learning occurs during our centers/small groups where students use technology to explore concepts and strategies taught during class lessons. Currently, our intention has been to use academic and interactive computer games to explore mathematical concepts and strategies. During the course of implementing the use of technology in the classroom, students' grades have increased, along with their confidence with mathematics, and their overall conceptual understanding of the lessons has greatly progressed. Unfortunately, there are quite often a number of obstacles that prevent the use of technology from being a reality. For instance, there are not enough computers for every student. This creates a never ending queue of students waiting for opportunities to utilize computers. At times, students are forced to forfeit their technology time altogether. Other times, the computers we have available to us are faulty, and cannot be fixed. Together we have created an inviting learning community within our classroom, and the ability to have accessible and reliable technology will allow us to enhance our learning experiences. It will also afford students the opportunity to actively engage in independent learning and studying time.
