As a special education teacher, my job is to give my students every opportunity to learn and grow into the best person that they can be. My students are excited, energetic & very eager to learn and explore all the possibilities that are made available to them. Their learning happens through books, lessons, manipulatives, interactive learning activities & technology. My district & school are very diverse. We have more than 80% of the population who speak a different language other than English at home. Over the past few years, our district has had budget cuts that have caused an increase in classroom sizes, loss of teachers, and cuts in the arts programs. This has caused our students to be at a disadvantage compared to other students in neighboring districts. My job is to advocate for every one of my students each year and even after they leave. The minute I am assigned to be their teacher, they become my children.
