I believe education and books have the power to change the world. I've been heartbroken by the recent events in the news. I, like many others, often feel helpless. After reflecting on my own practices as a teacher, I realize my personal classroom library needs to better reflect the truly amazing, diverse students that I teach. I would like to diversify my personal classroom library to ensure that all of my students feel represented. My second graders deserve to see themselves, and others who look different than them in the books they read and engage with daily. I would like to expand my personal classroom library with literature that features people of color. Thank you for your consideration in contributing to my project.
