The school where I teach is in an urban setting with a strong Franco-American and Irish heritage due to French Canadian and Irish immigrants seeking work in the textile and paper mills. Approximately 25 years ago, a new group of immigrants have made this city their home too. They fled war torn Somalia and Refugee camps in Kenya. The school where I teach has approximately 700 students in 7th and 8th grades. It is considered a Title One school where all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. I support two teams as a 7th and 8th grade special educator. I teach students identified with a disability basic literacy and math skills. Despite their learning difficulties, they all want to have a learning environment that allows them to achieve their full potential.
