I am starting a new journey as a junior high art teacher this coming school year. The students' ages have changed but many of the issues that plagued my littles will still be evident in the 7th & 8th graders. The world they live in is faced with family duress, unpredictability and unwavering hardships. For many of these students this is the only place they can receive a consistent meal, feel a sense of home or find refuge. I'm positive I'll see many students coming into my room with the same clothes on all week, lacking sleep, emotionally scarred and many not knowing where they will lay their head down that night. Yet, I hope that my passion for art and my love for teaching will continue to give them a creative safe haven for them at school.
