I am requesting 28 "at your seat" storage sacks for the back of my student's chairs. In our district we teach reading and writing using Lucy Calkins' workshop models. Each student is required to have a "bag" of books at their just right level. For second graders, staying organized is a challenge. The current situation with our book bags is a mess! Each student has a large Ziploc in which they keep their books. As you can imagine the Ziploc bags are not the ideal storage containers for books for my students. Students often misplace their books and the Ziploc bags are easily torn and damaged by book corners. The book bags often cause chaos during our workshop due to students not being able to find their books, which takes up valuable reading time. By providing each student with a storage sack on their chair, it will provide much needed organization. This will help our reader's workshop time run more efficiently because students will have their materials ready and organized at their seats. The storage sacks will eliminate the need for students to search for their bags of books before they start reading, which will increase their time on task, and increase literacy instruction time.
