As a literacy teacher, I had a HUGE classroom library...that stayed in my reading room, when I became a social studies teacher. To accommodate growth in our district, we're adding a new grade to our building, which equates to adding new curriculum materials. I cannot inherit materials from another teacher in the building because they simply do not exist. Wait a minute - you mean they didn't have phones?! How do we get modern kids to care about ancient cultures? I believe providing a familiar context for ancient events will allow the foundations of civilization to come alive to my sixth graders. I am asking for class sets of books so that I can effectively support learning and bring ancient cultures back to life through books that put them into a modern context.
