Each year, I meet new kindergarten students, and each year, I am amazed by their personalities, kindness, and excitement. These students quickly find a spot in my heart. Although they come in with boundless energy, most of the students enter kindergarten with very little to no exposure to reading or math, some never even holding a pencil or crayon before. They work very hard to close this educational gap to become fluent readers by the end of kindergarten. We work together in an inner city school where there is usually a lack of parent support and home life challenges make our classroom the most stable place in their lives. In this environment, I am not just a teacher but I often take on many roles to make sure I am helping to develop well rounded, stable students who have a love for learning that will help lead them to a life filled with success!
