I teach U.S. & Virginia History, and U.S. Government to some great CIty of Richmond 10th,11th,&12th grade students. Thomas Jefferson High school is a historic, beautiful all granite school. It was built in 1930 in Richmond's near west end. "Tee-Jay" is a combined comprehensive and International Baccalaureate School which serves students of all backgrounds and abilities. Our urban school receives federal funding for programs that provide free breakfast and lunch for every student. While we have classic "old school" slate by chalk boards and wooden floors we are challenged by the technology gap. My students are "Digital Natives", and have great talents when it comes to the use of technology. They find it motivating, interesting, and fun to learn when learning activities are paired with use of technology. Having the right tech gear is crucial to maintaining high levels of student engagement.
