I have chosen books in which interest my students. My students have asked for books that are currently trending. The first step is for each student to have the opportunity to receive a book in hand! Your generous donation to my project will not only help with my school site's new reading policy, but will also spark a stronger desire to read! I teach English at the sophomore and senior level. I have noticed my sophomores have a stronger desire to read for pleasure than do my seniors. My seniors are already at the point in which they no longer feel they need to read because they are so close to graduation. I've even encountered seniors who have confessed to me that they have never actually finished a book in its entirety. Therefore, I thought it was best to ask for book suggestions as opposed to assigning what they need to read. I strongly believe each student has a voice in the classroom. My students had the autonomy to choose what they would like to read, which I strongly believe will help with those reluctant readers to find enthusiasm. With a book in hand, my students will increase their want to read and spend more of their time on task. I'm looking forward to seeing my students EAGER to read!
