The bath bombs start our chemistry unit with hands on excitement sparking the wonder of science. We use the balloons to make closed systems measured with the scales to show the conservation of mass during a chemical reaction. The calculators allow the students to calculate the number of atoms in chemical formulas, documenting numerical evidence, and carries over into our calculating average speed unit. The atom model sets allow students physically connect the calculations from the page to a 3D model of the compounds they are measuring. The laminators and laminating pouches allows us to make color class copies and preserve them for years freeing up our budget for more hands on investigations for our 800+ students. The food coloring is used in multiple investigations throughout the school year, including but not limited to: the flow of heat energy in a liquid, and distinguishing chemical and physical changes.
