My students come from a high poverty area where more than 90% of students receive free and reduced lunch. There is a high percentage of homeless students who have had to change schools frequently as their families find a new place to live. The majority of the students are English Language Learners and normally only Spanish is spoken in their homes. The students do not have an opportunity to use technology or English in their homes. They have virtually no help with their homework once they leave school. Technology in the classroom really motivates this type of student. They are eager to learn the skills needed to use computers and iPods for learning. Many of the students are nervous when asked to be in front of the class to speak and show what they know. As a teacher, I try to build their confidence and using technology is one of the many ways I have achieved success with my students.
