I never thought I would love teaching, but when I met these little nuggets I immediately dedicated myself to their learning and personal growth! Most of my students come from low-income and single parent households in North Philadelphia. Many of my kiddos struggle with reading, often falling 2-4 grade levels behind. I stress literacy and reading strategies as much as possible in my classroom to help bring my kids up to speed and become competitive candidates for special admission high schools and college. My kids have big dreams and big goals. Most plan to attend college or some type of professional school. In addition to being serious kids with serious goals, they are the silliest people I've ever met! Whether they're dancing their way into my classroom or being "too cool" to dance at the 8th grade dance, we do a lot of laughing together. Maybe one day they'll laugh at my jokes... oh, teenagers!
