My students are K-8th grade inner city kids in Pennsylvania . They are great kids who are ready to learn, but have not been given equitable opportunity compared to schools in other districts. My school is a title one school with all students receiving free lunch. Most all of my students come from a low socioeconomic status. They have not had it easy, and to no fault of their own. Their school is an older building with limited resources due to district funding issues. The art program is on it's second year and I am constantly having to restock my supply shelves. The school and district did not have the budget to buy art supplies for the new program, so it has been left to me to find ways of raising funds and procuring art supplies. Going from nothing to something great is my goal- just like I want to inspire with my students.
