My special needs students are in a substantially separate (self-contained) classroom in Massachusetts. They attend a public school and are in a city-wide program for students with intellectual, autism, communication, health, and multiple disabilities. My students range from grade 3 to grade 5. Their ability levels vary from a preschool level to a 3rd grade level.
