Remember the first time you read a book in a series and were hooked? Were you in grade school or an adult? In our class, we step AWAY from the reading textbook and step INTO great literature. No reading logs, no required reading homework. Just more time for books, talking about books, and writing to each other about books. The result - kids are spending time WANTING to read and parents and teachers couldn't be happier. We are modeling by making our read-aloud the first book in a series and inspiring them to pick up the next book on their own. We'd love each of our students to have their own copy of the first three books in the fantastic Clementine series. Third graders love Clementine's humorous ways, spunky spirit, and warm heart. We can't wait to write letters back and forth with our students about this character, this series, and the connections each of our students will make to their own lives, feelings, and similar characters in other favorite books.
