Writing is an essential skill in all areas of life that needs to be practiced to be successful as a communication tool and journaling for my students can lead to better mental health at a low cost. Students are becoming more and more anxious in today's world with added graduation requirements, grieving alone during quarantine, and technology limiting essential soft skills and relationships development. Teaching my students to journal regularly would take them back to the days of learning tech-free communication skills development and allowing them to express their grief and decrease their anxieties by writing it down. When it is difficult to express verbally, they can journal or draw so as to move through their grief and anxieties rather than just sit with it heavily on them.
