Having my students read their little reader books to their families every week is the cornerstone of our school’s homework program. I currently have to send home photocopied leveled readers with my students due to the lack of emergent reading level books in our school’s book room. The copied books are not engaging and do not support the strategies that emerging readers are learning to use. The books I requested in my project will replace the black and white photocopies. These books are beautifully illustrated, rich text and filled with sight words that my students can read. I know that all of my students will be thrilled to take these new little reader books home to read to their family. What better way to have students fall in love with reading than to have them read a story to their family members and take them on an adventure!
