This is a biography of a true hero: an Olympic runner and U.S. Air Force gunner who survived starving on a raft, life in a Japanese concentration camp, and the mental anguish that followed. The books will be used to emphasize the importance of having perseverance during tough times. The unit will take place while our 8th graders are learning about World War 2. The objectives are to understand the U.S. Air Force's role, comprehend the dangers these heroes went through, and analyze the necessity of keeping an active mind that lives in the present, looks forward to the future, and learns from the past. No unit is complete without the necessary comprehension resources. Teachers Pay Teachers has resources like chapter and end-of-book quizzes, fun activities, and PowerPoints. I appreciate what you can do to place these resources into the hands of students. Have a wonderful day.
