It is no surprise that to anyone in the United States that Detroit has an educational equity problem. I see it every day, from low resources, high class sizes to high teacher turnover. We read about it but don't see what that does to kids. Well I can tell you what it does to kids, it sets them up to have to work their butts off just to struggle and it's not their fault. We have set them up to fail. In my fifth grade classroom I have 30 scholars, many of them read and perform math way below a fifth grade level, many are still learning English. It is almost impossible for me to meet all of their individual needs. My school has some awesome computer based resources to meet every child's needs and help them to learn at their level to grow, but we do not have enough computers to facilitate resources. These tablets will be used to help every scholar, but especially help bridge the unfair gap for those who have consistently not received a quality education. They will help me to provide more individualized instruction. Tablets will greatly help my special education scholars who do not get the assistance they need due to high class sizes. Tablets will help my English language learners learn English faster! Tablets can do so much for my scholars.
