The classroom will use the market to experience shopping at a grocery store with their friends in the dramatic play area. The students will fill their purses and wallets with money, gift cards, coupons and credit cards to prepare for their trip. Once students arrive at the market, they will shop from their list by adding items to their baskets or shopping cart. After completing their list, the students will check out with the cashier wearing their apron to identify them. The cashier will scan items, add items on the register/calculators and receive payment from the shopper. Grocery items will be placed in the shopping bags and students will head "home" to unload their bags. Daily life skills of adding, counting, budgeting and socializing will be enforced with this project. Teachers can enrich the money lessons by reading the new literacy books provided from this project.
