After 18 years of teaching special education, I've made the switch to the life of a general education science teacher. The excitement of teaching general education science has been mirrored by the realization that I do not have the tools I need to set up a proper science lab. In order to fully engage my 7th grade students, we must move from textbooks and workbooks to STEM and STEAM lab experiences. I am having a difficult time doing this with such a lack of resources. My school district is amazingly supportive, however, there is just no funding to put into a 7th grade science lab. My students need and deserve to have the best education that can be provided through hands on learning with modern equipment.
