This is my 20th year teaching in public education in an urban district in Indiana. My current English classes are varying levels of freshmen and seniors, so I have students when they freshly enter our school and program, and hopefully, I have them again when they are in their final year before leaving for college or other post-secondary endeavors. I would like to think I learn as much from my students as they learn from me over the time we are together. I see my job not only as a English teacher, but a creator of a community. When I send them out into the world, I want them to be able to communicate in a positive way to those around them, no matter who they are.
