Our school is a vocational magnet high school with 8 different academies. Our academies include Automotive and Small Appliance Repair, Technology Services such as Cosmetology, Early Childcare and Culinary Arts, Design Arts such as computer design and television production, Health Science with nursing and veterinary strands, Performing Arts, Engineering and Hospitality. Students choose an academy before starting their freshman year and can graduate with a certification in their field. Student demographics are mostly black and Hispanic with a small white and Asian population. Students come from homes with middle to low socioeconomic status. Each student comes with his/her own back story and most I have encountered have overcome a variety of difficulties and issues.
