Students need a safe and engaging learning environment. They need a space in which they have the freedom to choose where and how they want to learn. Most of these materials are built for that. I've asked for carpet squares for every student which will allow them to sit anywhere in the room that is optimal for their learning. Because there is no natural light coming into my classroom, I have asked for lamps and string lights to provide a warm, but bright environment. The bean bag chairs will be a great addition to provide students with a comfortable environment to read or calm themselves down if necessary. With flexibility in seating, students can take ownership over their learning in a safe environment. I have requested the various classroom supplies to provide the most engaging and comfortable learning for my students. It is honestly shocking how just giving students a dry erase marker on a sheet protector immediately engages them in their learning. They also will feel more comfortable making mistakes when they can easily erase and rewrite their work. Scissors and glue help students with hands on assignments to help their brains internalize information. The clipboards will allow them to continue their work anywhere at any time.
