I teach guitar and orchestra at a Title 1 middle school in central Virginia where 100% our students receive both free breakfast and free lunch. Our school works creatively to assure that no student misses an educational opportunity because of financial need. About 50% of the orchestra and guitar ensemble speak English as a second language. The student body is 95% minority, and I strive to make my concert programming reflective of the diversity of our student body. This outstanding orchestra earns "superior" (top) scores from the district orchestra assessment every year, and we won first place middle school orchestra at the 2018 Kings Dominion Festival of Music. I feel privileged to be a part of these children's music educations!
