My school is in the 2nd largest school district in the nation and features one of the most diverse student bodies in all of the district. Many of my students' families are 1st or 2nd generation immigrants, coming from areas around the world such as Mexico, Cambodia, India, Vietnam, Russia, and many others. The majority of students are classified Title I (socioeconomically disadvantaged), and although many were born outside of the United States, many have never left the neighborhood in which they grew up. Working at a school with such a rich cultural diversity as mine, I have always felt that it is extremely important to build bridges between communities and have student critically examine the issues facing the world today.
