I teach youth in grades 9 through 12 in an inner city school in New York. These young people stem from different academic backgrounds, but all share an essential characteristic in common-- they all live in a neighborhood in which receiving a strong high school education and being successful in college can be a very difficult endeavor. Our expeditionary learning school focuses on college readiness, and we encourage all students to move on to higher education. Our curriculum includes rigorous, hands-on and real-world work meant to challenge all students, and we believe that materials should also reflect these characteristics.
