My students are terrific kids that face difficulties in their home life that I can not begin to imagine. They come from a poverty stricken, low income neighborhood that is filled with a mixture of cultural backgrounds. My students crave the stability, structure and love that school provides them each and every day. They seek out the safety and consistency that they lack in many of their homes. My students are excited about learning new things, experiencing rich discussion and literature that they can relate to. They are engaging and funny and deserve every opportunity that this country has to offer, regardless of their ethnicity or socioeconomic status.
