My name is Hollie Miller and I run a medically fragile preschool unit at Roselawn Condon Elementary School. 33% of all students at Roselawn Condon Elementary School are learning disabled, which is much higher than the median across all reported elementary schools in Ohio (14%) 302 students, or 86.8% of the student population at Roselawn Condon Elementary School identify as African-American, making up the largest segment of the student body. A typical school in Cincinnati is made up of 40.9% African-American students.The demographic breakdown of Roselawn Condon Elementary School is drastically different from that of a typical school in the state of Ohio, which is made up of 16.3% African-American students on average. In addition, the percentage of children living in poverty who attend Roselawn is 98%. The challenges here are great, as are the rewards of working with this unique population of students.
