Last year, groups of students made posters about how Exponential Functions apply to topics of their choice, such as loans or the spread of disease. With a tablet per group, this year students instead will have more and better options for demonstrating their understanding of Exponential Functions. They could record a video, create a set of slides, design a comic strip, or even make a poster electronically! If every table group has regular access to a tablet, students will be able to be more creative and more effective in their STEM work. Students will learn how to leverage technology while solving problems, skills they will need for college and career. For example, students could access a graphing calculator on the tablet, look up a formula online, or jot down notes to save for later. The tablets will also support students with special needs, both through specific features (i.e. text-to-speech) and by providing an engaging, different way of instruction and assessment. Another major use of the tablets will be to share student work. Students will be able to write out solutions on their tablets and then stream them with Chromecast to the classroom projector. This will be effective for brainstorming about a topic, for group work on challenging tasks, and even for simple daily warm up solutions. This is the classroom of the future, today!
