Last year, I began my first year of teaching English as a Second Language! It was in October, and the district was in need of another teacher. I was thrilled to enter the classroom, only it turned out that I would not be in a classroom, but instead a large conference room. I kept a positive attitude, and did my best to make each period as engaging as possible. Throughout the school year, my students were awesome! We all adapted to the lessons and even got creative with how we did mini groups and learning stations. They took on the challenge to stay focused, despite being in a cold, stale room. It was not the ideal situation using conference chairs that were difficult for younger students to get into, and even served as a distraction sometimes. This year, I would love to give them special seating for area where they will read and do small group activities. As they rotate into each group, I want them to feel comfortable and know it is their special place to learn and use their imagination while acquiring a new language!
