The majority of my students speak English as a second language. Their vocabulary and experiences are limited. Scholastic Magazines will connect them to real world events. They also will be able to visualize and read non-fiction text. Each issue reinforces skills taught in Science and Social Studies. Scholastic Magazines will provide my students with interesting and engaging reading material that they can read in the classroom and take home to share with their families. Many of my students come from homes that consider magazines and books as luxury items. These magazines will be great resources for students to take home as well. Also, my students need a good, dependable pencil sharpener. Our current pencil sharpener takes a very long time to sharpen one pencil. Therefore, a pencil sharpener is needed to maximize the learning time.
