The environments teachers create in their classrooms impact our students' ability to learn, to create, to imagine, and to grow. The use of these new materials will help me create a homelike environment to help my students feel more relaxed while in the classroom and ready to learn. When students feel safe, secure, and valued in the classroom, their self-esteem increases and students are motivated to engage in the learning process. "They created a home {classroom} where I felt safe; I could make mistakes; Failure wasn't punished." In addition to increasing students' self-esteem through creating a homelike environment, they will also use these new materials to choose a place where they feel most comfortable to learn with flexible seating options. Flexible seating helps students feel relaxed, thus giving them a sense of calm, helping them focus, and be more productive with their time. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom & allows them to change their location and positions as needed within the classroom limits. My students have already expressed their desire for more flexible seating and have articulated how much they enjoy & benefit from the changes I have already been making to create a homelike environment within my classroom. I would love to be able to begin the 2019-2020 school year with these improvements to my classroom!
