The STEM kits we are dreaming of in the list below include resources that will help the students in our inclusive classroom meet the requirements of the newly introduced NGSS standards for: Renewable Energy, Water & Mineral Cycles, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Space / Solar System Science, Weather & Climate Science, Geology & Earth, Chemistry, Motion Physics, and Electro-Magnetic Physics, and more! These STEM kits, engaging resources and learning models will bring lofty scientific knowledge down to earth for the students in our inclusive classroom, and enable them to access science in a way that will help transform their lives and critical thinking skills for the better. Having these kits will help us utilize the Universal Design for Learning Framework in our inclusive classroom. For example, since we are in Hawaii, the volcano model will give students a concrete understanding of how their home was created over a time. Almost none of my students have access to educational models or kits such as these in their lives outside of school which is why having these materials will make our classroom a place they enjoy coming to. Several of these resources, such as the modeling clay, wipe-off puzzle pieces and dice are designed specifically to help create fun and engaging lessons for any subject, in a way that captures the attention of our students so that they can learn through playing challenging games. Our classroom will be filled with creative workshops, challenging lessons and enlightening projects that will hopefully inspire students to rise above the challenges they face daily. I promise to use these donations and materials solely for the purpose of enhancing students' learning and critical thinking skills about science and the world we all share.
