As a teacher, I must follow a specific curriculum with assigned texts designed to meet the needs of all of my students; however, many of the assigned choices are low interest or at too high of a reading level for my students. Though I encourage my students to read independently at home, my school does not have a student library needed to access those books. Many of my students do not have the funds to purchase book or do not have the support at home to go to a local library. My students need to find a love for reading, but it is hard to lead the way without access to high-interest novels. This project allows me to purchase a bookshelf with high interest novels for my students. The chosen books range in reading level and genre to meet the needs of all of my students.
