I teach 9th-12th graders as well as coach JV and Varsity football at Miami Southridge Senior High School (Miami, FL.) Which is located in the southern part of Miami in Dade County. We are a Title 1 school, which means that the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch which simply indicates that they come from very poor economical backgrounds. We are also an ETO School (Educational Transition Office) which means is that this school is consistently one of the lowest academically achieving schools in the district and is In danger of students failing or becoming at risk. To prevent this our school has been issued two extra class periods during the day, extra academic and instructional coaches in reading, science, and math. My kids are grinders and "go-getters"! They know that they are not the most academically sound students out there but they give 100% effort no matter what!
